History of Board - DePue Realty Company,

Imogene Board DePue

Board-DePue Realty was established in 1958 by Imogene DePue Board. Imogene went from selling Avon and Realsilk to selling real estate and became the first female Broker in the state of West Virginia. She had a sales approach like none other and thrived on "making the deal happen". She quickly made a name for herself in the world of real estate in Roane County.

The Board-DePue Realty office was then located in the Spencer Roane Hotel on Main Street. Imogene employed her mother, Ethel DePue, as her secretary, and the two lifted off what has proven to be a successful family owned real estate company for more than 50 years.

Wallace (Wally) J. Board, Imogene's son, graduated from West Virginia Tech in 1971 and began working with his mother in the family business. The business branched out and Wally, a licensed land surveyor, established Board Survey making Board-DePue Realty a "one stop shop" for your real estate needs.

Board Survey was a successful survey company for nearly 30 years and was sold in 2001. The location of the business moved from the Spencer Roane Hotel to The Wells Building,  which is currently the site of the First Neighborhood Bank’s drive-thru. As the business continued to grow the need for more space and agents grew as well. Imogene purchased the current office location at 343 Main Street in 1983 with visions of a home/office combo both convenient and practical. After two years and much remodeling, the doors at the current location opened for business, offering its customers a touch of class and years of experience behind the desk.

Imogene passed away in October of 1986, leaving Wally the reins of the business and the fortitude to continue.

Wally accomplished many missions ranging from the construction of subdivisions to the creation of a mortgage company, while continuing to provide seasoned real estate experience and knowledge to his customers.

The torch was then passed in 1996 to the third generation upon the arrival of Jennifer Board Nichols, Wally's daughter and Imogene's granddaughter.  After graduating from West Virginia University with a B.S. in Journalism, Jennifer decided to switch gears and return home to begin working at Board-DePue Realty. She became Broker of the company in 1999 and has assisted the business thru many changes including the establishment of the Multiple Listing Service for the West Central Board of Realtors and the launch of the internet craze and its significant role in the real estate industry.

This year we have achieved the highest and most profitable year in the company's history. We look forward to the continued success and pledge to our customers the proverbial honest, dedicated and unsurpassed service we have provided them for over 50 years.
